Sketching in NYC

I’m posting some recent sketches I did in the inspiring “Drawing NYC” class I’m taking with John Ruggeri. We meet every Tuesday in a new spot: these sketches are from a session last Tuesday in the Union Square Barnes and Noble.

I appreciated John’s advice on drawing unwitting portrait subjects in public (i.e. go for a back view, three-quarters, or profile portrait, so it doesn’t matter so much if they shift around!)

I did not appreciate the bystander who huffed away saying, “Why don’t you people rent a room? You know, there are ROOMS for this. They’re called CLASSROOMS.”

Actually, that’s a lie. I did appreciate the huffy man quite a bit.
